Every year, Jake and Tom Johnson host the Memorial Classic Golf Tournament in Las Vegas, NV.  This event brings over 130 industry executives and professionals together to play golf for 2 days.  The tournament has been happening since the early 1980’s and has grown with great success.  In recent years, the tournament has raised dollars to honor the memory of those funeral service professionals that have passed away that were not only members of the tournament but were great influencers and contributors to funeral service.  Below is a recent press release showing the establishment of the Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship and how young professionals can participate in this opportunity.

Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship
The Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarships, established in 2010 by the Board of Trustees of the Funeral Service Foundation, was created to honor those who have blazed a trail in the profession. The inaugural scholarships honor the memory of two of the industry’s greats: Dave Hirt and Bill Bischoff.

Two (2) $1,000 Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarships will be awarded annually to full- or part-time students (who will be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in the Fall 2013 semester) in programs accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education are eligible.

Judges from the FSF Board of Trustees evaluate students based on an essay.  The essay topic for 2013 is: Briefly explain why you chose to enter the funeral service profession. Discuss in detail what you foresee as the greatest new opportunity for funeral service.
