Most every family owned funeral home reaches a point in time when the owner generation needs a sound business plan to transfer the ownership to the next generation. That was our situation this year with our funeral homes and cemetery.

We called Tom Johnson who has been a personal friend for some thirty years. Tom and his team listened to us and assisted us in putting together our succession plan. They did a masterful job that exceeded our expectations. My son and I feel confident that our family firm is well positioned for the future.

When your firm reaches the point of ownership transition, give Johnson Consulting Group a call or call me first and I will be glad to share with you our success story.

Jake, I am just getting back home from our Annual Managers Meeting and I just wanted to say that Todd Van Beck’s presentations were outstanding. It would take me too long in this email to fully describe how outstanding his presentations were. I am overly impressed with him. Where have you guys been hiding him? Anyway, I really appreciated finally getting introduced to Todd and using him for training. He is a home run. I absolutely would use him again in a future training opportunity.

Dale:
I wanted to thank you once again for the recent work performed for our family. The business valuation assured me that things were fair, and in good order for all concerned, as I transfer the operating company to the fifth generation of the Geib family.

My good friend Harry, who made a career in large business operations, accounting, and consulting (and was also an economic advisor to the White House), told me that the Johnson Consulting Group’s written valuation was the finest he had ever read.

You have always been a friend and mentor, and have fulfilled your role in your usual upstanding manner. You are certainly a wonderful asset to the ever-growing talent at Johnson Consulting Group.

Dear Mr. Johnson:

First of all thank you for sending me your letter of engagement so promptly…I also wanted to let you know that your valuation report was outstanding in helping me resolve many issues. Your report was invaluable and used by the Public Guardian attorneys and our CPA in establishing a value for the mortuary and the basis for trying to work out a settlement with the contingent beneficiaries. Opposing counsel accepted your report without any major disagreements. I am confident had I not had your report my team would not have been able to reach a suitable agreement…I believe you and your company’s work was outstanding and cannot express my appreciation and gratitude for your support. I especially appreciate my interaction with you and your staff. It has been a pleasure working with you.

Sincerely,

Our company tripled in size overnight with the acquisition of two funeral homes and three combos. Integrating these diverse businesses into our funeral home company presented us with new challenges. Johnson Consulting has helped us immensely by keeping us focused on the fundamentals: customer service, employee welfare, marketplace penetration and close financial management. Their experience is invaluable for the continued development of our company.

Hi Todd,

Just wanted to express to you the positive impressions you left with our staff and how they are complimenting one another on jobs well done. We never experienced interoffice compliments like this before.

Just last night upon my return to Beverly all three of the newest staff, Francine, Virginia and Coreen and Brandy who has been here about 6 months voiced their excitement of your presence, delivery of the presentation and how they were overall captivated by your knowledge. At this morning’s staff meeting, I reemphasized that everybody in the room put themselves in the position of the grieving family’s pain and to keep their professionalism in the care center where we are always on the phone because the phone is the critical lifeline of our business.

Thanks to you and the entire Johnson staff, I have so much to work with and realistically implement on a daily basis. Thanks again and your friendship is truly valued.

Regards,

Johnson Consulting Group | Funeral Home Cemetery Consultants of Scottsdale, Arizona: information regarding Ron Shuler says:

Dear Tom:

Faye and I just wanted to write a letter thanking the Johnson Consulting Group for helping us transition our business to a new owner allowing us to begin to enjoy our retirement.

It was always our dream to own our own funeral business, and when we first committed ourselves to our plan by purchasing a retail building and converting it into the Shuler Funeral Home some 11 years ago, we knew it would require a lot of hard work and personal sacrifices to make it successful. We were very fortunate that our community not only welcomed us, but also many families placed their trust in us at their time of need. We are most grateful as our business grew over 200 calls per year.

However, we knew there would come a time when we would want to sell the business since our two daughters and son-in-law had their own careers with no interest in funeral service. That is where Dave Hirt, a long time friend, and Johnson Consulting Group became involved and helped us through every step of the transition.

Your company was so different from what we had heard about and expected regarding how merger and acquisition companies typically operate. With the help and guidance of Dave listening and understanding our needs, we developed the process we would follow to sell the business. It started with a complete business valuation, supported with detailed financial analysis, followed by your many recommendations and improvements which added significant value to the worth of our business. The professional and confidential approach to marketing the business worked perfectly by identifying and screening the qualified buyers that met our criteria. Priority #1 was to place it in good hands by being certain the new owner shared our values and principles for the business and community.

Faye and I will be forever grateful for the excellent way you and your associates worked with us in meeting our goals. We would feel proud and privileged to share our experience with other owners considering or facing a business transition.

Ron and Faye Shuler, Shuler Funeral Home, Hendersonville, North Carolina
